Introduction Feminist scholars and social activists have, over the past decade, noted the world wide antifeminist backlash aimed at clawing back the gains toward equity and social participation that women had made over the thirty years since the second wave of the feminist movement. Hidden by the globalization discourse, the general trend toward fundamentalist ideologies in many parts of the world--the east as well as the west--have particular implications for feminist scholarship, criticism, and ultimately the participation of women in framing and contributing to policy and decision making.
